About This Tool
Upload a PDF file and extract its text content into an editable Word (.docx) document. The pdf-lib and docx libraries handle everything in your browser — no files leave your device, no server is involved.
Why Convert PDF to Word?
PDF files are ideal for sharing and printing, but they're notoriously difficult to edit. Converting a PDF to Word gives you back full control — you can fix typos, update figures, reformat sections, or reuse content in a new document without retyping everything from scratch.
This is especially useful for reports, contracts, and forms that started life as a Word document and were exported to PDF for distribution, but now need a quick update. Instead of hunting down the original file, you can extract the text directly from the PDF.
TulTek's converter reads the PDF's internal text-drawing instructions directly in your browser using pdf-lib, then rebuilds the extracted text into a properly structured .docx file using the docx library. No installation, no account, and no file ever leaves your device.
Keep in mind that this is a basic text-extraction tool: it captures the words in the document but not complex layouts like multi-column text, tables, or embedded images. Scanned PDFs (photographs of pages) contain no extractable text at all, since they're just images.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it preserve formatting?
Basic formatting like paragraphs and headings is preserved. Complex layouts such as tables, columns, and images are not — you may need to clean these up manually after conversion.
Is the conversion done on a server?
No. All processing happens in your browser using the pdf-lib and docx libraries. Your PDF file never leaves your device.
Why didn't any text get extracted from my PDF?
If your PDF is a scanned document (essentially a photo of a page), it contains no selectable text for the tool to extract. You would need an OCR (optical character recognition) tool for that case.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no hard limit, but very large PDFs may be slow to process since everything runs in your browser's memory.
